This unit consists 8th grade math lessons (can also be used for 9th grade integrated math 1 course) in a 2 week unit plan on solving systems of linear equations and inequalities that are provided or modeled by word problems. The unit covers solving methods of systems of equations (substitution, elimination, graphing) then modeling systems of linear equations described in word problems in the first week. Then the second week consists of a real world modeling project for the students (partners or groups), a quiz day, then covering solving inequalities by graphing and modeling inequalities in word problems as well. The unit includes fun activities for the students to engage in learning and have fun practicing solving systems.
